Example 1. There are 645 oranges, 129 apples and 326 bananas in a store. How many
                fruits are there in all?

                Solution.

                Number of oranges = 6 4 5
                Number of apples = 1 2 9

                Number of bananas = + 3 2 6

                Total number of fruits = 1 1 0 0

So, the store has 1100 fruits in all.
Example 2. A factory produces 2325, 2837 and 987 bulbs in three consecutive days.

How many bulbs are produced altogether in these three days?
                Solution.

                Number of bulbs produced on the 1st day = 2 3 2 5

                Number of bulbs produced on the 2nd day = 2 8 3 7

                Number of bulbs produced on the 3rd day = + 9 8 7
                Total production of bulbs in three days = 6 1 4 9

Example 3. In a colony, there are 2658 men, 2257 women and 3445 children. Find the
                population of the colony.

                Solution. In a colony:

                Number of men = 2 6 5 8

                Number of women = 2 2 5 7
                Number of children = + 3 4 4 5

                The population of the colony = 8 3 6 0
